We have been talking and practicing all month at - Be Yourself, But Braver! Here's the lesson I'm learning-- I am not strong enough to go it alone! Can I work hard enough to tread water for a little bit? Maybe, but not for the long haul.
Here’s the thing-- I am strong! And you are too! You are strong and have so much to offer! My response in the past, when someone hurt me in business or in my personal life...something clicked inside of me. And I would say okay, I can do better. I will not be dependent on anyone. I will work so hard. I will wake up early. I will stay up late. I will guard my heart and do it "myself." Here’s the hard truth....I am going to continue to get hurt by people. You are probably going to continue to have some hard challenges ahead too, that will not change. But we can change our mindset about it and it's still not worth trying to go it alone! I am realizing that many times I was tricking myself and thought I was being brave, but really I was guarded and trying to go it alone with working harder, not depending on others, and trying to prove myself--earning love and affection. I still am going to coach you to work harder than you thought you could. I will continue to encourage you to take brave action! That will not change. But I’m hoping to live a better example with being vulnerable and knowing that getting hurt by people or things will not completely ruin me. That it is a brave risk I am willing to take to fulfill my mission. We are not strong enough to go it alone. Let’s be in community with people so we are not having to go it alone. As connected as we are with technology I think we are craving connection that is scary sometimes - I am first to admit that! But it is worth the “healthy risk” of putting yourself out there. Let’s do this!
